R.A. Hutton, Vector Landscape Artist

Bob has always drawn and sketched. His early works were pen and ink drawings of surreal landscapes.  While in college he began to refine his sketches by adding watercolor to his images. Upon finishing his degree in geology, he took a 35-year hiatus from art, to pursue a career as a geologist. Bob and his wife Susan chose to retire in Ashland, Oregon and to live in a small town surrounded by mountains.  Soon thereafter, he picked up an ink pen and began sketching and painting again.  It was not long before he realized that his hand was too shaky to draw the art he wanted.  He quickly discovered that he could achieve the style he wanted on his computer.  He started to create his landscape “drawings” using between 500-1000 polygons in PowerPoint.  In early 2022, Bob started to work with graphic art programs to create more complex and fulfilling images.

Bob’s art is not photoshopped or AI generated.  He generally starts with several of his own photographs to cobble together an interpretation of a landscape.  His recent landscapes are composed of many thousands of polygons and can take 30 the 50 hours to complete.  Because his graphic programs are vector based, his images can be displayed from 2"x 3" to >200" x 300" without pixelization.  His landscapes are printed at greater than 400 dpi to achieve high resolution pictures.  Bob prints with pigment-based archival inks (Giclée prints) with 12-16 pens.  He generally prints on luster grade photographic paper or metal plates.

Prints are available in sizes 9”x 14”, 16”x 24”, and 20”x 30”.
