Collection: Gloria Kastenberg

Gloria Kastenberg is an eclectically trained artist in abstract realism. She uses her brushstrokes to capture the movement of light, noticing those fleeting moments of color and form that dance with each rising and falling moment; at least that is the experience she enjoys as she paints, hoping to evoke that sense in the viewer.  Her still life paintings evoke drama, depth, and emotion. Gloria paints people—portraits and figures—connecting with and glimpsing an individual’s soul. And she paints en plein air, capturing the essence of nature in the places she visits.

“I paint to immerse myself in all that I see and feel that is uniquely mine, and that I translate through my growing ability to represent it. When I paint, I’m connected with something so deeply part of the human experience that I can feel the presence of the masters—past and present—drawing me into our artistic legacy. As my ability to see deepens, so does my ability to feel, enriching my experience of being alive.”

After a professional career as a lawyer, mediator and teacher, Gloria returned to the love of her youth—art.  She started painting with Gabriel Mark Lipper, and then continued studying and painting with Gregg Kreutz in Assisi, Italy and now through the Art Students League in New York. She continues her studies with David Leffel, Sherrie McGraw, Jacqueline Kamin and Stacy Kamin, and is a member of Bright Light Fine Art. Gloria is the recipient of a Haines Grant. Her work is exhibited at Art & Soul, Ashland, and is a member of Oil Painters of America and The Ashland Gallery Association.
