I first became a black and white photographer. 10 years passed and I developed an interest in color. I enrolled in a year-long course in photo-printmaking: etching, lithography, and silk-screen. At night we students were encouraged to attend an artist’s figure drawing session on campus. It was my first experience with drawing and I was hooked.
Next came a course in oil painting and then a Masters Degree in Painting and Drawing. I still take pictures and sometimes photography supports my work in drawing, painting, and printmaking. It is never an end in itself. I love paint, ink, and pastel too much. The process of making work and the hands-on feel of the result are an endless source of satisfaction.
Here I am, some 40 years later, still intrigued and excited about any and all things in visual art. I work nearly every day in my studio in Ashland. I enjoy looking at other people’s artwork and can happily spend many hours in an art museum. It is a kind of addiction. Moreover, I am proud to be one among many contemporary woman artists, bringing a female perspective to every work of art I create.
