Collection: Tom Glassman, Photographer

Taking minimal to the max

TOM GLASSMAN has been shooting with a camera for hundreds of years. “I attribute my ability ‘to see’ to my advertising background.” As a former creative director at several ad agencies, he is used to routinely looking for the unusual.

Tom Glassman’s images are composed in camera, with no post processing involved. Other than initial color correction, compositions are achieved without cropping or most of the techniques normally associated with today’s digital darkroom (such as Photoshop). The results are images that depend on meticulous exposure and framing, contrasts, texture, color and value, image placement, negative space, choice of subject matter (and unusual layering or juxtaposition) and the narrative that comes from direct observation.

Tom’s work has shown in a number of galleries and exhibits in Boston, Massachusetts; Portland and Kennebunkport, Maine; Seattle and Kirkland, Washington; California; New Orleans; Florida; Oregon; and even international art magazines.

These are real, old fashioned, authentic, honest-to-goodness, genuine photographs. That means they were not manipulated with any computer imaging software. Everything was done in the camera.
