Collection: Betty Barss
I was born in Dallas, Texas and moved with my family to California in 1957. I attended San Jose State University and graduated with a degree in Education.
I taught 4th and 6th grades including art education for 25 years for the Medford School District.
My husband, Don, and I have lived in the valley since 1974 and have two married sons and four grandsons.
I began painting in oils in 1970 and made the transition to watercolors when I met the late Bruce Butte of Jacksonville whom I tutored under. I found the challenge and spontaneity of transparent watercolors to more accurately reflects the feelings I wish to convey. The beauty of the natural world and its inhabitants are inspirations for my paintings.
I have signature memberships in the Northwest Watercolor Society and the Oregon Watercolor Society.
